"There is a psychological profile of people who set fires. 90-95% of them are men who live in a situation of social isolation, unemployment, often traumatized by some events". This was explained to "Nova TV" by psychologist Ani Vladimirova.
She explained that the motives are very different, but can be divided mainly into two. One group are people with deep psychological problems, bordering on psychiatric.
"For example, pyromaniacs have a frenzied urge that relieves their emotional tension", explained the psychologist.
The second group does it consciously and usually has 2 motives - either revenge or emotional conflict.
"It is characteristic that it happens at night, impulsively and in an area close to home. These people usually live with the feeling that they are wronged, humiliated, rejected. You can imagine how many such people there are in Bulgaria at the moment. So the profile of the arsonist is generally like this", the psychologist explained to NOVA.
She also commented on the behavior of people who throw away their cigarettes or light fires in the open, when this is highly inadvisable.
"In recent years, we have lost the cause-effect relationship. Many people say that they are doing what they should, but they do not get the expected result. This has been carried over to all activities in life. "Everyone throws away their cigarette butts., Why exactly does mine have to start a fire?". This vague responsibility is the reason why we do not think about the consequences. We act in a herd – like everyone else", said Vladimirova.
