„The Ombudsman's chair was empty and cold for a long time, but I am glad that my colleagues have not stopped working for a year and a half. It was nice to take this chair and find colleagues dedicated to their work. Expectations are high, and the palette of issues that the Ombudsman deals with is wide.”
This was stated by Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva to BNT.
„The government's efforts on the issue of hospices are great. Additional work is needed to implement the law. There are small touches that are important – the information that citizens should receive from social service providers. It is necessary to know what the quality of services, medical specialists in the homes is”, she also commented.
She is categorical that the state must have enough places for people in need of such services.
About the boarding school in the village of Varnentsi, Delcheva emphasized: “What we saw there does not correspond to what we understand about how children should be raised there. They should be literate and come out with a craft. The main activity there was focused on physical education and sports – it teaches discipline, but it is not normal for children in the 6th and 7th grades to misbehave.”
”According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Water as of July 27, over 173,000 people in our country do not have access to drinking water. This is a terrifying number. The problems with water loss also continue – about 60% on average for the country”, she commented on the water shortage in Bulgaria.
She emphasized that she would fight to ensure that people who do not have access to drinking water or it is of poor quality do not pay a "access to drinking water" fee.
