„Obviously Trump is trying to play some role, I don't see it having any effect. The way to find a lasting solution is for the US to take a very clear position, and not to try to seek a balance between the two countries“. This was said by former Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin in the studio of bTV Novinite.
„The role of the US cannot be that of a mediator, but of a party to a future agreement. The Russian president was the clear winner of the meeting in Alaska. The American president had no idea what exactly was supposed to happen there“, Kalfin also pointed out.
According to him, this is the first time that one country attacks another to expand its territory, and this is a violation of a number of provisions of international law.
„I don't see what can happen at this meeting. Last week, the American and Russian presidents met. In effect, President Putin was given an international stage to reiterate Russia's unchanged expectations, which means Ukraine capitulating," he added.
"The American president is looking for a role and wants to speed up the end of the war. The way to do that is by putting pressure on both sides, and the pressure on Russia from the United States has obviously been greatly reduced," Kalfin added.
