After almost a month of fighting the fire, the fire in Pirin, which broke out on the evening of July 25, has been completely extinguished.
This was announced by the regional director of the "Fire Safety and Population Protection" service in Blagoevgrad, Commissioner Valentin Vassilev, BNR reports.
"Although there are no smoldering outbreaks - neither on the perimeter nor inside the fire, the firefighters' patrols will continue, and the biggest risk is the peat with a depth of over 50 cm," said Commissioner Vassilev.
"We can say that the fire, having been localized, has already been extinguished on all fronts. We have no development on the perimeter of the fire. However, the patrols of our employees continue.
The peat is 50 cm deep and we will continue with our patrols to discover if there are places where it is still smoldering", explained the director of the Blagoevgrad fire department.
A thorough analysis of the forest fires, the natural disasters that turn them into a real disaster, the actions of the institutions and the responsibility of society, will still be carried out, but we are definitely living in a new reality, said Commissioner Vassilev.
"We must adapt. Let's readjust our systems, our thinking and our behavior for the new reality, which is with temperatures above 35 degrees, winds with gusts of 80-90 km per hour, so that we can first prevent fires from occurring, and then we are adapted, prepared to react.
Not only the services, but also the population in the event of disasters," concluded the director of the Blagoevgrad fire department.
