Residents of the Troyan villages of Oreshak and Cherni Osam are worried about the government's intention to resume the project to build the "Cherni Osam" dam, bTV reports.
The launch of the project is among the long-term measures of the regional ministry to address the water crisis in Pleven. The idea for the dam is more than 30 years old, but it is facing resistance from locals due to concerns that its construction will affect nature and tourism in the region.
“We are firmly against it, we are sure that there are other sources that can solve the problem“, says Marin Sirakov, mayor of Cherni Osam.
“We accept the news with concern, people with water and those without should not be opposed. There were specific proposals - water supply from the Sopot dam, construction of wells in the terraces of the Danube River and construction of a new water supply“, the people also point out.
“The problem has been unresolved for years, measures can be taken to eliminate the leaks and prevent the ecological catastrophe that will occur if the dam is built“, residents of the settlements also say.
