The traffic at the largest checkpoint on the border with Turkey – „Kapitan Andreevo” is very busy, NOVA reported.

The reason is that thousands of Turkish citizens are returning to Western Europe after a vacation in their homeland. The crossing takes between 3 and 5 hours.

„The traffic is extremely intense. The main part of the passenger flow is from the so-called category - guest workers, traveling from the Republic of Turkey to the countries of Western Europe. The necessary organization has been created for the implementation of a fast and high-quality border check. Thanks to the leadership of the Main Directorate „Border Police” we are provided with both personnel and technical resources,” explained Marian Kurtov, Deputy Head of the “Kapitan Andreevo” Border Checkpoint.

According to him, all routes are working – 9 plus 1 for buses.

“In the last 24 hours alone, 6,979 vehicles have been processed at the entrance. That’s about 290 per hour”, Kurtov explained.

“I hope we’re lucky, we haven’t crossed the entire border yet, but so far everything has been calm”, says Julia.

All this traffic is heading to “Kalotina”, where the traffic jams look the same.

Despite the traffic jams, however, people prefer to travel by car.

“A car is better, especially if you have a big family, you can stop somewhere, take pictures, if there are big attractions", shared tourist Todor Yankov.

The peak is expected to be next week.

Last week, there was also a case of migrants being detained in a truck.
