An aggressive pit bull, let loose without a muzzle or leash, attacked and killed a stray cat. The case is from the Burgas neighborhood “Meden Rudnik”.
Eyewitnesses filmed the uncontrolled animal and alerted the authorities. The owner of the dog was sanctioned and voluntarily handed over the pet to the municipal shelter, where it was placed under strict supervision.
The case has stirred up residents of the neighborhood, who are worried about the safety of children and the elderly.
Ivayla Vasileva managed to film the aggression. “From Friday, when I posted the post, until yesterday, when it was taken away, the dog was let loose and attacked cats. There are quite a few killed”, said Ivayla Vasileva.
She claims that the dog was walking freely before. The neighbors warned the owner, but there was no reaction.
„We received the signal and passed it on to the Municipality of Burgas, to the Bulgarian Animal Protection Agency”, said Pepa Ivanova from United for Animal Rights. „It's not just this dog - there are three of them from the same owner. Two females and one male”, explained Ivanova.
The dogs were raised in a place where the owner does not live. „They literally raise themselves. The fence that we saw is so broken that they go in and out on their own”, explained Ivanova. The information is that posts with the dogs in question have been uploaded since April.
“According to our information, the animals are raised for breeding, sold for organized fights. The male dog photographed with the cat is scarred”, said Ivanova. “We are checking whether they are registered, chipped, and vaccinated. We have also called for an inspection by the Bulgarian Food and Drug Administration”, she added.
