18-year-old Julien Kyazamov, one of those accused in the beating of the chief of police in Ruse, Nikolay Kozhuharov, and manages to film part of the incident with his phone, claims his family, quoted by BTV.
Two patrol cars arrived at the scene and the youths were released at midnight. Julien went home, showing the camera of their apartment. And in court, another of the accused said that they did not start the fight.
"One person started to hit me and that's how the fight started, I have nothing more to say. In reality, the first blow was inflicted by them, then we get out of the car and - yes!, says Kiril Gochev, another defendant.
Interior Minister Daniel Mitov called their claims conspiratorial.
"I even heard that the director of the Ruse police had gone to the gym! Twelve thirty at night! Some people should be ashamed of themselves! But the fact is that these people in question - the detained young men, I don't see any of them being injured, and we have the director of the Ruse police in hospital with very serious injuries, he said.
Julien's family insists that the case be heard in another city. "We want it to be heard in Veliko Tarnovo, everyone here is addicted, we had many refusals. We can't even find a lawyer," says Aysun Shabanov, a relative of the accused, Julien Kyazamov.
"We want honor, the truth to come out, fair justice," says Suleiman Suleimanov, Julien's father.
On Thursday, the appeals court in Veliko Tarnovo will review the measures taken against the accused, who were left in custody.
