The facade of the former "Renaissance" theater, known as the "Vazrazhdane" cinema, will be restored, the "Vazrazhdane" district reports. The goal is to restore the most authentic appearance of the facade, stopping the destruction and preventing damage in depth. The reconstruction also includes increasing the load-bearing capacity, stability and durability of the building.
During the renovation, the unusable elements in the interior will be removed, and restoration and replacement of structural parts and installations are planned. The strengthening of the facades and new structural elements will be carried out by foundation entirely within the contour of the building, without affecting cultural layers below the existing levels.
The restoration of the facade plaster and decorative elements includes the removal of late interventions and severely compromised areas, cleaning, dusting and strengthening of the exposed walls.
The specialized restoration will cover the areas with plaster, relief, ornamental and decorative elements, which will be cleaned and restored by a qualified restorer using molds, templates, casts and putties. Restoration of all metal elements on the facade is also planned.
The project also includes replacing the window frames and roof, repairing the balcony, installing new window frames, replacing the sheet metal cladding and the drainage system with new elements with a PVC coating in harmony with the facade.
The building on “Vazrazhdane“ Square is a cultural monument. It has been burned down several times, the last fire being in August this year. The hundred-year-old architectural asset on “Hristo Botev“ Boulevard in Sofia began its existence as the “Renaissance“ Theater, built in 1900. In 1940, the building burned down and was then restored. Over the years, it has housed the cinema “Vazrazhdane”, the trade union center ”Georgi Dimitrov”, and in its last years of operation it was a pop-folk disco “Sin City”. After January 1, 2016, the nightclub closed its doors and has not been operating since then, and the building is being demolished. There were also announced plans by its owner Krasimir Georgiev to build a five-star hotel in its place, which did not happen.
