Hong Kong developers are considering a complete ban on smoking on construction sites in the metropolis after a fire at an apartment complex killed nearly 160 people. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), some companies have already asked their contractors to implement the ban.
The Real Estate Developers Association is gathering opinions on the smoking ban, the publication notes. Meanwhile, Henderson Land Development has already requested a complete ban on smoking on construction sites. According to a company source, any worker seen smoking will be required to leave the workplace, and contractors will decide after the incident whether to fire the worker or fine him. CK Asset Holdings announced that it has also banned workers from smoking in the workplace, stating that designated smoking areas will be created.
