The new church in the village of Stryama has been the subject of a burglary and theft. This happened at a time when the video surveillance was turned off, as the cameras had been temporarily dismantled due to the repainting of the building. According to initial information, the perpetrators stole the donation box. The door of the cash register, where the money from the sale of candles is kept, was also broken, Nova TV reports. The police are working on the case.
"As usual, I turned off the security system, unlocked the front door and entered the church. At first glance, everything seemed normal. But when I looked around, I saw the door of the candle shop broken. I instinctively looked at the cash register, where the donations are. Then I saw that the box was missing. This was explained in “Hello, Bulgaria” by the priest of the church "Holy Great Martyrs Sofia, Faith, Hope and Love" Father Krasimir.
According to him, nothing was broken in the church. He immediately called 112 and when the police arrived, they found that there was a broken and closed window next to the altar, through which the thieves probably entered.
"According to the police, there were at least two thieves. They mainly took money. The donations in the box have been collected for almost a year. It is opened in January, as it is sealed by the Plovdiv Metropolis. There was at least 700 leva inside. There could be a thousand. According to the budget from the previous year, that's what is expected," explained Father Krasimir.
According to him, the thieves were in a hurry or something scared them, since there were small banknotes and coins scattered around the donation box.
"This is the first time someone has entered this church with malicious intent. Nothing is missing except the money," the priest emphasized.
The police in Rakovski announced that they are working on all possible versions, as well as that they are continuing to search for the thieves who robbed the church.
