SCC employees conducted a successful special operation to combat telephone fraud.
Two people were detained in Sofia, and a third was arrested with the assistance of uniformed officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the territory of the Ruse region.
The men - aged 55, 46 and 37 years old - are complicit in more than 10 phone scams carried out in the capital, the Ministry of the Interior announced.
They called randomly selected phone numbers under the pretext that a police operation was underway to arrest phone fraudsters who were embezzling various sums from the victims.
The total value of the acquired funds amounts to more than BGN 70,000. A firearm was also found in the residence of one of the detainees, illegally acquired during one of the frauds, when an elderly woman provided a metal cassette with money and the weapon inside it.
One of the men was questioned as a witness and released. The 55-year-old and the 37-year-old were brought in as defendants and placed under permanent arrest.
Scammers who took more than BGN 70,000 from their victims were caught.
