On 04/17/2024, a truck with Turkish registration arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint. The driver - a Turkish citizen, presents documents for the transported goods – mattresses for beds from Iran through Turkey and Bulgaria to a country in the European Union.
According to the “risk analysis“ the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs check, including with X-ray equipment, where suspicious densities were found in the transported cargo.
In a subsequent physical inspection of all 156 sleeping mattresses, 618 strip-shaped polyethylene bags were found between the top foam and metal springs, containing a beige powdery substance that field tested for heroin.
The total gross weight of the seized drug is 402,720 kg worth BGN 16,727,377, estimated for the needs of the judicial system.
On the case, a pre-trial proceeding was initiated by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo. District Attorney's Office – Haskovo brought H.H., 63 years old, a Turkish citizen, as a defendant for a crime under Art. 242, para. 4, pred. 1, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.
