Sofia City Court set a "custodial detention" measure. for Marin Dimitrov after accepting that there is sufficient evidence of involvement in an organized criminal group, BNT reports. At the moment, the materials in the case do not establish that he has a connection with cigarettes without a banderol.
The court accepted that there was no danger of the accused absconding because he came to the courtroom alone. However, the nature and severity of the accusation are sufficient to warrant a "custodial detention". Extreme public danger, involving many individuals and those in high public positions, is a prerequisite for custody.
The fact that there are persons who have a measure other than custody is a decision of the prosecutor's office, not the court. There is a forensic medical examination that shows that the accused's health does not prevent him from being in custody. Before the court, the accused stated that he did not know the head of the "Customs" Agency. and did not speak to customs officials about smuggling.
The determination is not final and may be appealed. The next court session is scheduled for April 30 before the SAC.
