Customs officers found 19 million leva worth of cocaine hidden in containers of bananas during an inspection of ships at the port of Burgas. The shipment weighed 40,802 kg and came from Ecuador.
In recent days, two ships loaded with containers of bananas from South America have arrived there. The recipients are Bulgarian companies whose main activity is fruit trade. All containers undergo a thorough customs inspection with X-ray and physical control.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case by an investigating customs inspector, which is led by the District Prosecutor's Office - Burgas. The inspection is part of the joint efforts of the “Customs“ Agency and the “Border Police“ to strengthen control of our external borders.
