Criminalist Botyo Botev commented to NOVA whether there was a mistake in the actions of the police officers who detained Yavor Georgiev in Varna. According to him, the uniformed officers acted according to protocol.
„For me, this is an extremely simple, elementary story that happens repeatedly in police work. The police officers sent to the scene correctly assessed that there was a false note in the signal submitted by the victim and that he was in an inadequate condition”, the criminalist emphasized.
We recall that the 36-year-old man died hours after he was detained and taken to a psychiatric hospital in the seaside capital. He himself reported the incident to 112, and his relatives claim that he became a victim of police aggression. Tests proved that there was cocaine and alcohol in his blood.
According to Botev, however, the reaction of Interior Minister Daniel Mitov was “completely inadequate, of a person who does not understand anything”. ”The police officers could have been temporarily suspended from work so as not to influence the investigation”, claims Botev. According to him, there is a political nuance in the management of the Ministry of Interior and the department could have been managed by someone external to the system. The forensic scientist described the lack of a chief secretary as a mistake.
