In the UK, a Bulgarian man was sentenced to 10 years and 9 months in prison for causing death by dangerous driving and concurrent sentences of about 5 years for causing grievous bodily harm, the "Mail Online" edition reported, quoted by BNR.

In a very dangerous overtaking in Lincolnshire, Assen Kurtev kills his own wife, 39-year-old Stefka Mitkova, and injures four others in a head-on collision in the oncoming lane early in the morning of March 4, 2024.

46-year-old Kurtev is was driving a group of Bulgarians to work at "JZ Flowers" - a large flower and plant company.

The court heard from spouses Kiril and Galya Ribarov, who were in the back seat of Kurtev's car, along with Dimitar Dimitrov, who told the defendant to slow down. Kurtev was driving faster because he was about 25 minutes late to pick them up and was in a hurry to catch up.

Kiril Ribarov said that overtaking Assen Kurtev was "suicide, kamikaze driving".

The driver of the Vauxhall Zafira Kurtev was driving head-on into a Volkswagen Scirocco, whose driver, Cameron Marshall, 22, was also seriously injured.

The judge said that Kurtev could be automatically deported after his sentence, of which he must serve two-thirds, and he was also banned from driving for five years after his release.
