Customs inspectors carried out an inspection of a site in Sofia, where they found a large quantity of illegal electronic cigarettes.
On June 24, 2025, customs officers from the “Excise Operational Control“ department at the Sofia Territorial Directorate carried out an inspection of an individual at the time of receipt of a shipment. It was found that the shipment contained 2,500 disposable electronic cigarettes containing nicotine, without a valid Bulgarian excise stamp. The refills of the electronic cigarettes have a capacity of 2 ml. liquid or the total quantity for all is 5,000 ml. During the operational actions, the premises of the person under investigation were inspected, where another 1,183 disposable electronic cigarettes containing nicotine were found, without a valid Bulgarian excise stamp with a total amount of liquid of 2,366 ml. Pre-trial proceedings were initiated for the detected electronic cigarettes without a Bulgarian excise stamp under the inventory of the Sofia Customs Department under the supervision of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office.
During the inspection, 1,107 disposable electronic cigarettes containing nicotine were additionally found, with a valid Bulgarian excise stamp, each with a capacity of 2 ml. of electronic cigarette liquid and a total amount of 2,214 ml. The specified electronic cigarettes were stored by the person without a valid permit in accordance with the provisions of the Excise and Tax Warehouses Act. Administrative criminal proceedings have been initiated in the case.
