Judicial reform: The "Adrian" case starts from scratch - 1

Peter Chernev, against whom six charges have been brought for causing bodily harm, coercion and torture to his girlfriend's then 5-year-old child, is once again standing before the Plovdiv District Court. The landmark "Adrian" case starts again today, after it ended with a verdict.

This is recalled by BNT.

The second instance returned it for a retrial by a different panel of judges. What does this development mean for little Adrian?

"The Plovdiv District Court is returning the case for a new trial due to significant procedural violations, i.e. the entire process is starting from scratch," said Vasil Popov, lawyer for 5-year-old Adrian.

Everything starts from scratch, he explained. Evidence collection - everything. The case will be heard behind closed doors due to the nature of the materials that will be heard.

"This is not for viewing - I tell you this most responsibly. According to the mechanism of the bodily injury, it is the one that was explained in the second expert examination - accumulation of traumatic injuries on the child's head".

It has been established that Chernev inflicted the blows and Stella saw him, but did not stop him. The fairest sentence is a minimum of 10 years. According to Adrian Chernev's lawyer, he has no inclination to reform.

"In my opinion, with so many acts, they should impose 10 years on him".

Vasil Popov said that he did not see any remorse in his stepfather. He remembers how he told the judge "Come on, I have to go to lunch". This man is not critical of what he did, the child's lawyer was categorical.
