At the age of 92, the doyen of Bulgarian cartooning and illustration Gencho Simeonov has died, his daughter Sofia Simeonova announced on her Facebook profile, FOCUS reported.< /strong>
Gencho Simeonov was born in the village of Chelopechene in 1931. After graduating from the first graduating class of the Art High School in Sofia, he continued his development at the Art Academy, majoring in "Illustration and book design". with Prof. Iliya Beshkov. Gencho Simeonov is one of the most popular Bulgarian cartoonists, and since 1967 he has been working in the village of “Stershel“ and published his works in the periodical press.
He is the author of several solo exhibitions, where he mainly shows cartoons and drawings, and after 2011 he devotes his work to painting, with which he is relatively little familiar. In his painting, Gencho Simeonov strives to develop a comprehensive dramaturgy of images and rich figurativeness, which turns his paintings into colorful fairy tales filled with life.
The pilgrimage to Gencho Simeonov will take place on June 26 at 12:30 p.m. in the church of the Central Sofia Cemetery
