Alice Cooper: Grunge, punk, disco...hard rock has always been at the heart of it all VIDEO - 1

Rock legend Alice Cooper gave a curious new interview to the French publication “Riff X“, in which the main topic became the sound of his band for all 50 + years that he has been on the big stage.

Alice admits that she simply cannot tear herself away from the roots of this music for the simple reason that it is still beautiful today and people like it.

Here are some of the things the star shared:

„I can never escape classic rock from the 1970s because it just works. This is a fundamental musical configuration, each of us can trace our roots back to the early Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds. Only when you lean on this foundation, you can continue independently in some direction.

The truth is that almost every good hard rock band can be traced back to Chuck Berry and his unique rhythm. Only then do you have to find a way to turn that sound into Alice Cooper, Guns N’ Roses or Aerosmith. It's the way you do it that's important, so that your own individuality flows from the music.“

The legend continues:

„Someone somewhere said that talking about music is like trying to dance and thereby explain to someone what architecture is, for example. It's almost impossible to just talk about music. It is imperative that you listen to it and then either like it or not. But at the heart of it all is hard rock – a style that has not lost its luster for 50 years. Grunge, punk, hip hop, disco, all these styles had their strong moments, but hard rock has always stood in the middle. It has always been there and always will be. You see, Led Zeppelin will always be Led Zeppelin. Play them on some 16-year-old kid for the first time and you'll see the reaction. Oh yes! There's something about this music that will never die.“

Alice and his tour band and Rob Zombie have just finished their joint tour “Freaks On Parade” (Freaks on Parade) with guests Ministry and Filter in the US. It started on August 20 and ended on September 18.

Mr. Cooper is a pioneer of the so-called shock rock genre (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie and hundreds of other artists, too many to list). At its core, this is visual hard rock that aims to shock and provoke. It is based heavily on horror movies and series, similar literature, garage rock, comic books and more. Alice Cooper's concerts often feature electric chairs, guillotines, huge reptiles, and all sorts of nice things. However, Cooper also has an unmistakable sense of humor and self-deprecation, which makes him a unique character.
