The dress code, which had to be observed when playing on the tennis court at Buckingham Palace for more than a century, has been abolished, writes The Times.
At the initiative of King Charles III, tennis players were allowed to wear colored clothes. Previously, they were required to appear on the palace court exclusively in white. According to the publication, the monarch took this step so that the players would feel less “restricted“.
The court was built on the territory of Buckingham Palace in 1919. It is used mainly by employees, but sometimes members of the royal family can also be seen among the players.
The tradition requiring tennis players to dress in white has existed for 106 years.
