In Greenland, a giant iceberg threatens to destroy one of the local villages. The National Post writes about the critical situation.

An iceberg risks destroying the coastal village of Inarsuit in the Awanaata municipality in the northwestern part of the island. The block the size of a skyscraper is dangerously close to the village - if it breaks or touches the shore, the resulting wave can carry away all the houses in the area. The glacier is constantly checked for cracks.

The iceberg is drifting close to the edge of the island, sometimes moving away from it, sometimes approaching. Due to the looming threat, authorities ordered the temporary closure of a grocery store and a fish factory. Local residents are advised not to walk near buildings in groups.

This is not the first such incident in Greenland's history - an iceberg has already threatened the existence of another village in 2018. In addition to evacuating residents, the government is considering other options: the glacier could be towed or blown up. But such measures are quite difficult to carry out - to blow up an iceberg of this size, more than a hundred charges would be needed.
