One of the princes of Saudi Arabia's ruling family, Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, died on Saturday after spending almost 20 years in a coma following a car accident, the king's office said.
The royal family member who spent so long in a coma was called the “sleeping prince“ in Saudi Arabia. There were periodic rumors that he was improving, but they were not confirmed.
“A prayer service for the prince's funeral will be held on Sunday at the “Imam Turki bin Abdullah“ mosque in Riyadh“, the office said in a statement, quoted by the Saudi news agency SPA.
The information about the death of the 35-year-old prince was confirmed on the social network X and by his father, Khaled bin Talal, who for 20 years refused to turn off life support and believed that his son would come out of a coma. He constantly posted numerous photos on social networks after visiting his son in the hospital, including during various holidays.
“With hearts that believe in God's will and destiny, with deep sadness and grief, we mourn the death of our beloved son“, the father wrote on his blog.
