American alpine skier Lauren Macuga is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, BTA reports. Macuga was one of the United States' top medal hopes at next year's Milan-Cortina Olympics, but that won't happen after she suffered a knee injury during training in Copper Mountain, Colorado, the U.S. ski team said.
The 23-year-old Macuga, who won a bronze medal in the super-G at the 2025 world championships in Saalbach, Austria, suffered the injury while preparing for the start of the 2025-26 World Cup season.
She finished last season ranked fourth in the world in the downhill and sixth in the super-G.
“Lauren Macuga fell during training on Friday morning and injured her right knee, which will require surgery. She will miss the rest of the season. "We know she will come back stronger," the U.S. ski team said.
Makuga and her sisters Sam and Ally struggled to compete in three separate events at the Olympics.
