Manchester United midfielder and captain Bruno Fernandes has said that the club wanted to sell him in the summer transfer window.
„The club wanted me to leave in the summer – I remember that. I told the board about it, but I don't think they had the courage to make that decision. I decided to stay – including for family reasons, but also because I really like this club. The conversation with the manager also influenced my decision. But from the club's point of view, I felt: „If you leave, it won't be so bad for us.“
It really hurts. It's not so much painful as sad because I'm a player who can't be criticized. I'm always available, I always play - good or bad. I give my all. And then you see players around you who don't value the club and don't defend it properly... that's what makes me really sad," Sport Witness quoted the player as saying.
The 31-year-old Portuguese turned down a move to Saudi Arabia's Al-Hilal in the summer.
Fernandez has been playing for the English club since 2020. During that time, he has made 307 appearances in all competitions, scoring 103 goals and providing 93 assists. His current contract with Manchester United runs until the end of June 2027. The Transfermarkt portal estimates his value at €40 million.
