England started with a minimal victory at the European Championship in Germany after defeating the selection of Serbia 1:0. The only goal in the game came after only 13 minutes of play, when Jude Bellingham punished the Eagles' goal and practically brought the three points, reports BTA.
Already in the first minutes, the England team permanently settled in Serbia's half, and our neighbors for the first time managed to move and keep the ball only in the sixth minute. However, Southgate's team opened the scoring with their first possession of the match. In the 13th minute, Bukayo Saka crossed from the right, the ball ricocheted off a Serbian defender and into the hands of Jude Bellingham, who dived and headed past Andrija Zivkovic to curl the ball into the net for 1-0.
In the 20th minute, Serbian captain Aleksandar Mitrovic tried a strong long shot, but the ball went very far from the target. After half time, Trent Alexander-Arnold attempted a shot from a direct free kick in front of the goal, but it was blocked by the wall.
In the second half of the first half, the Serbians leveled the game and looked bolder at Jordan Pickford's goal. In the last moments of the part, Dragan Stojkovic's team had to make a forced substitution, as left defender Filip Mladenovic appeared in the place of Filip Kostic.
At the beginning of the second half, the Serbian team started the game much more aggressively and worried their opponent. In a good Serbian attack, Dusan Vlahovic made a mistake with his last pass to Mladenovic. In the 56th minute, Alexander-Arnold shot from a distance, but goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic did not take any risks and boxed the ball.
In the 77th minute, the reserve of the "three lions" Jared Bowen crossed from the right and Harry Kane, who had been inconspicuous up until that point, outplayed a defender with a powerful header that keeper Rajkovic beat and it was kept out of his net thanks to the crossbar.
In the second game of the group stage, England play Denmark on Thursday, while Serbia face Slovenia on the same day.
