Slovenia prevailed over France with a 3:2 game (25:20, 25:23, 25:27, 22:25, 15:11) in the Olympic volleyball tournament. The Slovenians led convincingly with a 2:0 game and 24:22 in the third part, having two opportunities to record a clear victory. The "Roosters", who are Olympic champions from Tokyo, managed to equalize and then took the part. France prevailed with 25:22 in the fourth game and brought the match into a tiebreak. However, Slovenia was the better team in it and ended the match with 15:11 with a successful block by Alen Payenk during an attack by Jean Petri, BTA reports.
Slovenia's Toncek Stern led the game with 28 points, while Irvin Ngapet had 21 for the French. The team of Slovenia is in first place in Group "A" and France has also advanced as the second team.
USA beat Japan 3:1 game (25:16, 25:18, 18:25, 25:19). The Americans were better for much of the match, trailing only in the third game. They ended the game with a successful attack by Aaron Russell, after which the ball went out after a block by Kentanaro Takanashi.
Matthew Anderson scored 16 points for the USA, Torey Defalco and Taylor Averill each added 14. Yuji Nishida led the game with 18 points. The chief referee of the match was the Bulgarian Ivaylo Ivanov.
The USA is the leader in Group "C", with the German team finishing second, and Japan should be among the best third.
Brazil prevailed over Egypt 3:0 (25:11, 25:13, 25:16). Darlan Ferreira Souza scored 15 points for the South Americans, Ricardo Lucarelli Souza added 13. Mustafa Issa scored 8 points. Brazil is in third place in Group "B" behind Italy and Poland, but will move forward in the top third.
