Plamena Mitkova ranked fourth in the women's long jump at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in the Chinese city of Nanjing, BTA reported.
The 20-year-old Bulgarian achieved 6.63 meters in her only successful attempt in the competition, but on her last attempt she was injured and was carried out of the sandbox with the help of a wheelchair.
Mitkova made two fouls in her first two attempts, but in the third she rallied and cleared 6.63 meters - as much as she achieved at the European Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn at the beginning of the month.
A new foul followed for the Bulgarian, and after the fourth attempt she showed that she would be in pain. Probably for this reason she missed the fifth attempt, but decided to jump in the sixth in an attempt to enter the medalists, but instead got injured.
The champion was the American Claire Bryant with a personal best of 6.96 meters. Second with 6.83 meters is Annick Kelin from Switzerland, and third with 6.72 meters is Fatima Diame from Spain.
Plamena Mitkova was the only Bulgarian to participate in the final of the championship in Nanjing.
