Manchester United could part with up to ten of their players this summer in a new attempt to seriously clean up the squad, which began last year, informs “Manchester Evening News”, quoted by sportal.bg.
At “Old Trafford” they are already planning for the future without veterans Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, who are due to leave at the end of the season, as well as without Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, whose contracts expire. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are on loan and have clauses in their contracts, and the “Red Devils” hope that they will be activated as planned. The situation is similar for Anthony, who does not have a buyout clause in his contract with Betis, but the English hope that his good performances with the Andalusian team will arouse more serious interest in him. Manchester United are open to the possible sale of a large part of their other players, if good enough offers appear. The situation around players such as Altay Byander, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia also remains unclear.
The Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules also continue to create difficulties for club bosses in financial terms and impose certain restrictions, with the price of a player in question being calculated based on the transfer fee paid, distributed over the duration of his contract. In this regard, Casemiro was purchased for 60 million pounds from a four-year contract, so next summer from “Old Trafford” they will require 15 million pounds in order not to generate a loss. In the same scheme, Anthony, who cost the “Red Devils” just over 80 million pounds with a contract for five seasons and this year will have to generate between 32 and 33 million pounds in order not to generate a loss.
In addition, Manchester United will wait until the last minute to make their plans to make it clear whether they will still qualify for European tournaments, and the only way to do this is by winning the Europa League trophy. The “Red Devils” last participated in European tournaments in the 2014/15 season, when they played only 44 matches. This season alone, when the 20-time champions are in the Europa League, they have already played 46 games and will play at least 11 more by the end of the campaign.
United generated their best ever transfer revenue last summer, when they earned £110m. In the last two years at Old Trafford, they have managed to generate the most positive financial results from the sale of players from their own academy - Andreas Pereira, James Garner, Anthony Martial, Dean Henderson, Mason Mount and Scott McTominay.
