Barcelona are expected to sign a new right-back in the summer, but the choice of transfer targets will depend on the future of Jules Kunde. The French defender has been Hansi Flick's undisputed first choice at right-back this season, starting almost every game when he is not suspended for late arrivals.
Unlike teammates Pedri, Gavi and Ronald Araujo, who have signed new contracts, Kunde has yet to renew his contract. If the 26-year-old defender does not extend his current deal beyond 2027, Barcelona will try to sell him this summer, reports “Mundo Deportivo”. In the event of a possible parting with Kunde, the Catalans' main transfer target is Wanderson from Monaco. According to “SPORT”, the Brazilian is in “half-position“ for a transfer to La Liga, but the Monegasques will want around 40 million euros for the 23-year-old full-back.
Another Brazilian option is Wesley, who recently received his first call-up to the Brazilian national team. His price is expected to be around 35 million euros. If Barcelona decides to keep Kunde, the club has a list of cheaper options. Andrei Ratiu (Rayo Vallecano) - the Romanian, who impresses with his speed, could move from Madrid to Catalonia for 25 million euros.
Marc Pubili (Almeria) - The 21-year-old full-back, part of Spain's Olympic champion squad, is a more affordable option. Although currently playing in the second division, he has experience in La Liga with Levante. The latter option is also the most familiar - Oscar Minguesa. The La Masia graduate made 66 appearances for Barcelona's first team before moving to Celta Vigo in 2022.
Barcelona have taken a precautionary approach with Minguesa's buyout clause, which is just €10m. The Catalans will be weighing up their next moves, with Kunde's fate a key factor in their summer transfer strategy.
