Dimitar Kuzmanov qualified for the final round of the Hamburg qualifiers. The 31-year-old from Plovdiv, who is ranked number 269 in the world, defeated the number 1 seed in the qualifying scheme and number 79 in the world, Alexander Vukic from Australia, 6:4, 6:2, in just 94 minutes.
Kuzmanov was the better player on the court throughout the match, making four breaks and qualifying for the second and final round of the qualifiers.
The Bulgarian won the first set after a break in the seventh game, which was also the only one in the first part of the match.
The second part began with another break for the Bulgarian, but immediately afterwards Vukic equalized, taking advantage of the fact that he reached a break point for the first time in the match. This, however, seemed to motivate Kuzmanov even more, who won the next four games, took a 5:1 lead and made the last two games of the match a mere formality.
For a place in the main draw of the tournament, which has a prize pool of 2.1 million euros, Kuzmanov will play the winner of the pair between German Mika Petkovic, number 1097 in the world, and Croatian Borna Gojo, number 252 in the world.
For his victory over Vukic, the Bulgarian will take 13 world ranking points and 8630 euros.
