Sebastien Ogier (France, Toyota) won the Rally Portugal of the World Rally Championship for a record seventh time in his career, BTA reports.
Ogier and his co-driver Vincent Landes finished the four-day round 8.7 seconds ahead of Ot Tenak (Estonia, Hyundai), with Kalle Rovanperä (Finland, Toyota) a further 3.5 seconds back in third position.
For Ogier, his 63rd WRC victory did not come easily. He drove for a long time in second position, but Tenak suffered a mechanical problem on the penultimate stage on Saturday and lost a lot of time. This dropped the Estonian to third place, but he managed to move up one position in Sunday's races.
"I'm proud of all my victories in Portugal, where I've always had speed. Thanks to the team. We managed to win with good race management and I'm happy. Seven times in Portugal doesn't sound bad at all", said the winner Ogier, quoted by wrc.com.
With his third place, Rovanperä closed the gap on the leader in the standings to 30 points on Elfin Evans (Great Britain, Toyota), who finished in sixth place today. The championship continues with the gravel roads of Rally Italia Sardegna near the city of Olbia on June 5-8.
