Sinner continues to defend his title in New York - 1

The leader in the world rankings Yannick Sinner (Italy) continues to defend his title at the US Open tennis championship, reports BTA.
Sinner was put to a serious test by Denis Shapovalov (Canada) at the "Arthur Ashe" stadium, but after saving a break point to avoid falling behind 0:4 in the third set, he managed to achieve a victory with 5:7, 6:4, 6:3, 6:3 in 3:14 hours.

The Italian made a drastic change in the momentum in the middle of the match, which included a series of nine consecutive games, turning the match into a comfortable victory.

"Today was a very, very difficult match. I've known Denis for a long time, so I knew I had to play at a high level. I'm very happy that I was able to win. He started very well. I just tried to stay mentally strong," Sinner said in his on-court interview.

Last year's champion, who didn't drop more than three games in a set in his first two matches of the tournament, took 12 of the final 15 games against Shapovalov to extend his Grand Slam hardcourt winning streak to 24 matches. The 24-year-old became the fourth youngest player to win 20 matches in all four Grand Slams after Rafael Nadal, Boris Becker and Novak Djokovic.

"The second week is completely different. You see fewer people backstage. That's always a great sign that I'm still here. It's getting harder and harder physically and mentally. "It's obviously a special place for me. The first time I played in the main draw of a Grand Slam was here and I won last year," said Sinner, looking forward to a fourth-round match with either Tommy Paul or Alexander Bublik.

Russian Andrey Rublev, seeded 15th, defeated qualifier Coleman Vonn (Hong Kong) 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 and will next play the winner of the match between No. 3 Alexander Zverev (Germany) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada). Rublev won the match with a break in the sixth game of the deciding fifth set, which lasted 3:10 hours.

Number 10 Lorenzo Musetti (Italy) led against his close friend and compatriot Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-2, 2-0 when Cobolli withdrew due to injury. Musetti reached the fourth round in New York for the first time, where he will play Jaume Munar (Spain), eliminating Zizi Bergs (Belgium) 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. Also advancing is Leandro Ridi (Switzerland), ranked 435th in the world, who led 5-3 against Kamil Majczak (Poland) before the match was abandoned due to the Pole's injury.
