We are reporting to the prosecutor's office due to data on abuse of office and corrupt practices among employees of the Metropolitan Inspectorate. This was announced by the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev. "In structures like this, there are conditions for abuse of office and a high corruption risk. Corruption and malicious practices have no place in the Metropolitan Municipality, regardless of whose interests they violate," Vasil Terziev is emphatic.
A long-standing corruption scheme in the Metropolitan Inspectorate has created a parallel system for the disposal of construction waste and earth masses in over 240 unregulated landfills on the territory of the Metropolitan Municipality.
“For years, waste has been dumped in and around the ravines of rivers, on the territory of agricultural lands, on municipal and private properties. According to the new director of the Metropolitan Inspectorate - Eng. Nikolay Nedelkov, the scale of the illegal activity indicates that it has been developing for years and was well organized, announced to Lili Marinkova in the FACTS studio. and the show “Conversation“ Sofia Zheleva from the “Anti-Corruption Fund”.
“Engineer Nikolay Nedelkov became director of the Metropolitan Inspectorate after Vasil Terziev became mayor. He began to investigate unregulated landfills for the disposal of construction waste. Nedyalkov begins to clarify and cardiograph the places. When construction begins, the dirt or garbage from the demolished building in Sofia should be taken along a precisely defined route to the only place in Sofia that can accept such waste - the landfill in the "Vrazhdebna" district. We have only one such place, which is in an extreme neighborhood like “Vrzhdebna”. The municipality of Sofia has a huge territory, and for a construction company, for a transport company, which has to transport this type of waste, from one end to the other, this is a problem", Zheleva also shared.
"This is also the reason why a large number of companies save purely on transport costs, because there are also costs that will be charged to them at the depot itself. And it so happens that there are people in the Metropolitan Inspectorate who patronize precisely these schemes for the unregulated disposal of waste. It turns out that around Sofia there are over 240 such unregulated landfills, which is shocking. We are talking about huge sizes, thousands of square meters, acres of land. We have information that they are “coming home” about BGN 25 per truck, which makes between BGN 40,000 - 50,000 per month for senior people in the Metropolitan Inspectorate”, she also said.
