European Parliament President Roberta Metsola will open a permanent representation of the institution in Kiev, Ukrinform reported. She made this statement during her speech to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, BTA reports.
“I am here this week to further strengthen our cooperation. We are opening the permanent representation of the European Parliament in Kiev so that we can be present in Ukraine and work together with you every day. This was our promise to you and we are fulfilling it“, Metsola said.
At the beginning of her speech, she paid tribute to former Verkhovna Rada Speaker Andriy Parubiy, who was killed in Lviv. Before her visit to the parliament, Metsola visited the memorial wall and paid tribute to the fallen soldiers who fought for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
In her speech, the President of the European Parliament stressed the importance of sanctions pressure on Russia, the return of abducted Ukrainian children and support for the armed forces of Ukraine.
