Russian killed in Ukrainian drone attack on Belgorod region - 1

One person was killed and another injured after a Ukrainian drone hit a car in Russia's border town of Belogorod, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said early this morning, quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Gladkov wrote on the "Telegram" app that the drone killed a man in his car in the border town of Shebekino. The airstrike seriously injured the brother of the deceased, who was taken to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, last night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia does not have the strength to launch new major offensives, noting the heavy losses of manpower after more than three and a half years of war.

"I believe that at the moment, they do not have the strength for large-scale offensives", Zelensky wrote on the social network "Ex" and added that Moscow is suffering from significant losses that do not allow it to continue with new large-scale actions.

The Ukrainian president pointed out that this year Russia has been preparing operations in four directions - Sumy, Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk and Zaporozhye.

"The operation in Sumy has already failed – Russia has suffered heavy losses, especially in manpower, and has transferred forces to other fronts," he wrote.

In early August, the Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Syrsky, described the situation in the eastern Donetsk region along the front line near Pokrovsk, Dobropilia, and along the border with Dnepropetrovsk region in parts as critical.

On the other hand, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army, Valery Gerasimov, yesterday visited Russian forces at their positions in Ukraine. He said that Moscow's forces are advancing on all fronts, with the heaviest fighting taking place in the Pokrovsk area.

Gerasimov also noted that Russian forces are making progress in their attempt to capture Kupyansk – a largely destroyed city in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv region, as well as in Yampil, further east.

The claims by both sides could not be independently verified, the agency noted.
