French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Egypt on Monday to discuss implementation of the peace plan presented by US President Donald Trump to end the war in the Gaza Strip, after Israel and “Hamas“ agreed to cease hostilities, Reuters reports, citing a statement from the Elysee Palace, BTA reports.
The ceasefire, brokered by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the United States, came into effect yesterday after days of intense negotiations in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh. Trump's plan aims to establish a lasting ceasefire, secure the release of all remaining hostages and restore full humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
During his visit, Macron will meet with regional partners to discuss the next steps in implementing the agreement. The Elysee Palace statement stressed that the president will reaffirm France's commitment to achieving a two-state solution as the basis for lasting peace, security and reconstruction in the region.
