The United States, Qatar, Egypt and Turkey are committed to resolving disputes diplomatically, according to a joint statement released by the White House.
“We hereby commit to resolving future disputes through diplomatic engagement and negotiation, not through the use of force or prolonged conflict“, said the declaration signed by the leaders of the four countries.
The document emphasizes that lasting peace can be achieved if the security of Palestinians and Israelis is guaranteed. The signatories acknowledged that the Middle East should not be plagued by conflict and “selective application of peace terms.”
The leaders of the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey signed a peace agreement for the Gaza Strip on Monday at a summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. U.S. President Donald Trump called it “the biggest and most complex deal ever.”
Meanwhile, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi described the Gaza agreement as a historic turning point.
The participants in the Gaza summit noted the need for further consultations.
The summit was co-chaired by the Egyptian president and his U.S. counterpart. The aim is to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip, strengthen efforts to establish peace and stability in the Middle East, and open a new chapter in regional security and stability. More than 20 countries, as well as international and regional organizations, participated.
The fighting in Gaza ceased on the afternoon of October 10. Before that, Hamas and Tel Aviv agreed to implement the first phase of a plan to end the conflict.
In September, the White House published a 20-point plan. The movement must agree not to participate in the administration of the enclave. Amnesty is provided for its members who support peaceful coexistence and surrender their weapons. At the same time, Israel should not occupy or annex Gaza.
Hamas agreed to release all hostages and hand over the bodies of the dead, while Tel Aviv agreed to withdraw its forces to the agreed lines and release hundreds of Palestinians from prison, including those sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorism.
According to the Ynet portal, the Israeli army will initially control 53% of the territory of the enclave and will withdraw its troops from Gaza.
