European countries are working with Ukraine on a 12-point proposal to end the war in Ukraine along the current front lines, writes “Bloomberg News“, citing informed sources, reports BTA.
According to the proposal, a Peace Council chaired by US President Donald Trump will monitor the implementation of the proposed plan.
Earlier today, European leaders urged Washington to remain firm in its calls for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine along the current front lines, as a basis for future peace talks.
Russia is calling on Ukraine to agree to cede more territory to it before any cessation of hostilities fire.
Under the proposed 12-point plan, Ukraine would receive security guarantees, funds to rebuild the country from the damage caused by the war, and a path would be paved for it to quickly join the EU.
After Russia agrees to a ceasefire after Ukraine and both sides agree to stop territorial advances, the proposed plan calls for the return of all deported Ukrainian children back to Ukraine and an exchange of prisoners of war.
The two sides would have to begin negotiations on the administration of the occupied territories, although neither Europe nor Ukraine will recognize any occupied Ukrainian land as Russian, the information from “Bloomberg News“ also said.
Earlier today, Reuters and other news agencies reported that during Trump's closed-door meeting with Zelensky in Washington last week, the two argued, and the US president repeatedly used profanity and pressured Zelensky to accept some Russian demands. But the Ukrainian leader declared the meeting a success, as it ended with Trump publicly supporting a ceasefire along the current front lines - a long-standing position of Kiev.
Later this week, Zelensky will visit several European capitals for talks with European leaders. First, he will attend an EU summit, and then he will attend a meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing" countries. During these talks, the sending of forces to ensure security in Ukraine after the war ends will be discussed. Russia has already rejected the deployment of such international security forces.
