Russia is analyzing the latest Western sanctions and will act in accordance with its interests, Reuters reported, citing a statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, BTA reported.
"We are currently analyzing the sanctions that have been set and announced, and, of course, we will do what best suits our interests," Peskov told journalists. "This is the main thing in our actions. We are acting primarily not against someone else, but in our own interests. This is what we will do," he added.
Earlier this week, the United States imposed direct sanctions on the two largest Russian oil companies, "Rosneft" and "Lukoil", and the European Union approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine, which includes a ban on the import of Russian liquefied natural gas.
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the US sanctions against the two Russian energy companies are a counterproductive signal, including in terms of resolving the conflict in Ukraine. Russia's goals in Ukraine remain unchanged, and the root causes of the conflict must be resolved, Zakharova stressed.
The US has imposed sanctions on the two largest Russian oil companies, "Rosneft" and "Lukoil", over the war in Ukraine and announced that it is ready to take further action. Washington has urged Moscow to immediately agree to a ceasefire in Russia's war in Ukraine, Reuters reported.
"Given President (Vladimir) Putin's refusal to end this senseless war, the Treasury Department is sanctioning the two largest Russian oil companies that fund the Kremlin's war machine," US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said in a statement. "We urge our allies to join us in complying with these sanctions."
