White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt has accused the British media corporation BBC of publishing disinformation.
“This is completely, 100% fake news and not worth the time the great people of the United Kingdom spend watching“, she told the British newspaper The Telegraph.
Leavitt's comments followed the publication's revelation that a news story about US President Donald Trump had been edited. Fragments of the US leader's speech in the BBC video were edited to make it appear that Trump was calling for a storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Remarks in which Trump called for the need to express civil positions through peaceful means were cut out.
The editing of the video was “deliberately unfair and selective”, Leavitt told The Telegraph. “British taxpayers are being forced to foot the bill for a left-wing propaganda machine”, she concluded.
