British Health Minister Wes Streeting has said he has no plans to run for Prime Minister Keir Starmer. He said this in response to claims by allies of the prime minister who have expressed concerns about a possible coup later this month, Reuters reports, News.bg reports.
British media reported that Starmer is ready to fight any challenge to his leadership, possibly after the budget is passed on November 26. Streeting and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood have been mentioned as potential candidates to challenge Starmer for the job.
“The Prime Minister is not running for office this morning“, Streeting said, describing the rumours as “a completely self-defeating message, not least because it is not true“.
The Health Secretary stressed: “I will not call for the Prime Minister to resign. I support the Prime Minister. I have been doing so since he was elected leader of the Labour Party“.
