American President Donald Trump said last night that he was considering a deal to supply the F-35 fighter jets manufactured by “Lockheed Martin“ to Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
“They want to buy a lot of planes“, Trump told reporters aboard the presidential plane “Air Force One“, while traveling to his “Mar a Lago“ estate in Florida, where he will spend the weekend.
The news of the potential deal comes ahead of a planned visit by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the White House next week, when economic and defense agreements are expected to be signed.
The US president also said he had successfully defused tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, preserving a previously negotiated US-brokered ceasefire that was on the verge of breaking down.
“Today I stopped a war“, Trump said.
The US president said he had spoken by phone with the prime ministers of both countries.
Territorial disputes over where the border between the two South Asian neighbors runs led to a five-day armed conflict in late July that killed dozens of soldiers and civilians.
Trump threatened to withdraw trade privileges from both countries if the fighting did not stop, leading to a temporary cessation of hostilities. The agreement was reaffirmed in more detail last month when the US president attended the ASEAN summit in Malaysia.
The truce was on the verge of breaking this week after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said a border villager had been killed and three others wounded when Thai soldiers opened fire on them.
