2025 is expected to end with a record passenger flow at the 14 regional airports managed by "Fraport Greece", ANA-MPA reported for BTA.
The company predicts that a record 37 million passengers will have used its airports by the end of the year, as according to the General Manager "Commercial Development" George Vilos, a total of 35.2 million passengers were transported in the first ten months of 2025, which is approximately one million more than the previous year and represents an increase of 2.7 percent compared to 2024.
Between 2016 – the last year before the concession of the airports – to date, total passenger traffic has increased by 45 percent, reflecting not only the strong growth of Greek tourism, but also the extensive investments that have changed the face of the airports.
The CEO of "Fraport Greece" Alexander Zinel emphasized that "the steady upward trend of the airports demonstrates the dynamism of Greek tourism and the importance of infrastructure investments“.
According to the company's management, the increase is almost exclusively due to international passenger traffic (3.5 percent), while domestic traffic remains stagnant, mainly due to seismic activity on the island of Santorini.
The largest market is the United Kingdom, followed by Germany and the Scandinavian countries. Visitors from the United States also saw a significant increase, now in 8th place with a 2.7 percent share as a source of visitors, despite the fact that there are no direct flights to regional airports and the main source is Athens International Airport.
