At least six people were killed and eight were seriously injured in an armed attack on a bar in the city of Tula, Hidalgo state, Mexico, the Mexican newspaper El Universal reported, citing the state prosecutor's office.
Unknown assailants attacked the La Resaka bar on November 29 at around 1:30 a.m. local time. A group of at least seven people broke into the establishment and opened fire with R-15 assault rifles.
Law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation and are conducting operational operations to identify and detain the attackers.
As El Universal notes, Tula, located in the southwestern state of Hidalgo, has recently become a hotbed for local criminal groups fighting for control of the area and the right to conduct illegal business there, including theft of oil and petroleum products, drug trafficking, extortion and racketeering.
