Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council and former President Dmitry Medvedev wrote on the social platform X that NATO is an enemy of Russia and even hinted that the Alliance should be destroyed.
"NATO joyfully exclaimed about the liquidation of the Russia-NATO Council. I must admit that I share their excitement," Medvedev wrote.
"What "council" is this? There is only one way to deal with enemies," the former president continued, referring to the legacy of Soviet writer Maxim Gorky.
"If the enemy does not surrender, he is destroyed," Gorky preached in the 1920s.
In recent months, Medvedev has become known for his fiery rhetoric against Western countries amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
He also warned that Russia could resort to using tactical nuclear weapons if the Ukrainian authorities use a "dirty bomb".
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow was ready to fight "immediately" if European countries start a war.
