European countries should stop unconditionally following the American approach and propose their own peace plan for Ukraine, said EU Defense Commissioner Andrews Kubilius in an interview with “Politico“, BTA reports.
“The EU should be independent or at least ready to play a significant role in geopolitical processes, including by having its own proposals for achieving peace in Ukraine and discussing them with its transatlantic partners,“, Kubilius stressed.
He noted that European authorities are worried that even if President Donald Trump's new plan does not work, a new one will be presented soon. "Every six months new plans come out, and sometimes we feel like we are just waiting to see what Washington will propose this year. Plans must also come from Brussels and Berlin," the European Commissioner added.
Kubilius stressed that it is imperative for Europe to develop its own approach to ending the war in order to have a place at the negotiating table. "We must have the opportunity to discuss two plans - one European and another, which may be proposed by our American partners. The aim is to find synergy between the two plans and achieve the best result," he added.
