Viktor Orban: EU leaders have violated European law! Hungary is no longer obliged to comply with the principle of loyal - 1

Hungary no longer considers itself bound by the principle of loyal cooperation with the European Union, since it was the EU that first violated it when discussing the frozen Russian assets. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, quoted by the TASS agency, Focus reports.

"Hungary complied with the principle of loyal cooperation on the issue of frozen Russian assets. In response, the European Union deprived us of our rights. "I believe that from now on, Hungary is not obliged to respect this principle, since the other side has rejected it," Orbán said in a conversation with journalists on board the plane en route to Brussels. The prime minister posted a video of his statement on the social network X.

According to Orbán, EU leaders have violated European law by proposing that decisions on Russian financial assets be taken by qualified majority, rather than consensus. "This contradicts the principle of loyal cooperation when discussing sanctions and sets a dangerous precedent," he stressed, warning that the case would have long-term consequences.

On December 12, the Council of the European Union decided to freeze Russia's sovereign assets indefinitely. The European Commission hopes that a decision will be reached at the summit on December 18-19 to seize Russian assets worth €210 billion, including €185 billion frozen in the Belgian platform Euroclear.
