Russia has not agreed to transfer control of the Zaporizhia NPP to the US as part of a potential peace deal, Reuters reports.
According to the US plan, the US was supposed to take over the management of the Zaporizhia NPP, in particular, to distribute electricity from it between Ukraine and Russia. However, Moscow rejected this initiative.
Instead, the Russian Federation insists on independent control of the plant. The Kremlin claims that with such an approach Ukraine could receive electricity at low prices.
"Moscow insists that it controls the plant and is ready to sell electricity to Ukraine at low prices. Official Kiev does not agree with this“, the publication says.
According to the agency, citing sources, the issue of control over the Zaporozhye NPP remains one of the most controversial in the negotiations. The parties take principled positions: Russia is not ready to give up the plant, while Ukraine rejects any options for joint management.
Earlier it was reported that the IAEA had begun consultations on the creation of a temporary ceasefire zone near the nuclear power plant for repair work.
Subsequently, the IAEA announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed on a ceasefire for the repair of the last available backup power line to the Zaporozhye NPP.
